Transportation Generalist - Permanent Sign Division

  • Welcome to Minnesota!  While performing the duties of this job, you will be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at the construction site on a daily basis.  These positions regularly work in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and/or snow.

  • Bring your muscles!  Must be able to lift 100 pounds on a frequent basis and safely work at heights 15 feet or greater.

What will you be doing in this role?

This may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.
 

  • The Transportation Generalist role performs basic level technical and/or skilled maintenance work.  Under general supervision an employee in this role performs daily and routine work in the installation and repair of signs; performs related work as required.

  • Installs, repairs and removes permanent signs and messages according to the MUTCD and Traffic Engineer Manual and to insure the safety of the motoring and pedestrian public.

  • Installs emergency and temporary signing on detours, construction projects and other emergency projects so that the motoring public is guided safely through project areas on trunk highways.

  • Partially fabricates standard signs such as speed limit numbers and road work ahead signs, so that the correct sign is placed according to sign specifications.

Hourly Pay Rate: DOE

  • Must have valid Class D Driver's License

  • Commercial Class A Driver’s License – preferred but not required.    

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Must have working knowledge of English sufficient enough to read, write, speak and         understand oral and written information.

  • Must have good mechanical aptitude

  • You must be willing and able to lift up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or         carrying of objects and/or tools weighing 50 pounds.

  • You must be willing and able to walk or stand to a significant degree on rough terrain.

  • $$$$ - ability to work long hours during Spring/Summer/Fall months
